India’s Biggest Magento Event – #MM19IN, Turns Out to be a Great Hit!

In the heart of Gujarat – Ahmedabad witnessed India’s most-awaited Magento event that was held on 2nd and 3rd February. Presence of 25+ tech icons, leading brands from the world of commerce and almost 500 attendees made the event undoubtedly a huge success.

Everyone from developers to marketing professionals marked their presence, with a keen eye for the latest trends and innovations in the world of Magento.

Let us share our two-day experience from the event:

Day 1:

The first day was all about introductions, greetings, and insights to the world of Magento. Brent Peterson and Vijay Golani welcomed everyone and gave a brief overview of the event.

The event headed towards an advance brainy session where GraphQL and PWA were some of the diversified topics under discussion by various keynote speakers including Ashish Tandon, Bhagyashree Surana, SergiiIvashchenko, Sonal Puri, Miguel Balparda, Tom Karwatka, Sushma Vyas,and Ramadas Prabhakar.

Vinai Kopp gave his views on Magento caching. He explained that complexities you face while caching Magento 2 pages can easily be avoided. The learning experience was educating and interesting as well.

Every session was indeed a value addition, attendees were curious for the David Manner’s session on Magento Community engineering team and Sulagno Mukherjee’s session on Driving B2B eCommerce with Magento.

The day ended with a session from the most awaited keynotes of the day Ben Marks”. Google keynote by Saurabh Rajpal, (Mobile Technical Solutions Consultant, Google) & Magento keynote by Ben Marks (Magento Evangelist — Magento Inc.) was the most awaited sessions of the day. Attendees made the most of those sessions.

The first day concluded with an overview and some prize distribution, which was then followed by some fun time of networking and drinks. We had an amazing opportunity to meet and greet some of the leading thinkers and doers of the IT industry.

Day 2:

Day 2 was contribution day sponsored by Wagento, Two Jay, and Nexcess. As this day allowed the attendees to contribute towards the Magento Community, everyone was quite excited. Magento Community Engineering Team introduced all the attendees to Magento 2 development and gave them insights on how they can contribute to the Magento 2 core.

Attendees even got a chance to work with Magento core team architects, and contribute towards the acceleration of advancement in Magento 2. Magento U Certification exam was also organized at the venue, interested candidates even took the test and successfully cleared it.

It was awesome meeting great old friends from the Magento Community of India. We spoke about ecommerce, organic farming, coffee, drinks, pets and what not.

The WYSIWYG editor (or TinyMCE) is upgraded from version 3 to version 4 in Magento 2.3. It allows a highly customizable WYSIWYG: Widgets, variables, and media gallery are implemented as plugins and can be defined globally or on per shop instance.

Page Builder

Finally, we have CMS feature on this no-user-friendly platform. In Magento 2.3, the requested Page Builder is added. The Page Builder function enables merchants to create customized pages without having to write code. It can handle both bundled and virtual products, and it had individual product settings. Version 1.2, in which downloadable products, layered navigation, and FTP appear, is released in the same year.
  • 2009: CE 1.3, which introduces catalogues, is released. However, what is even bigger news is that Magento Enterprise Edition sees the light of day. It has a version number 1.6 at its launch.
  • 2010: This is the year when the CE 1.4 and EE 1.8 versions are published, bringing important changes in customizability of appearance. They introduce widgets, the WYSIWYG editor, and other novelties.

  • 2013: This is the year of CE 1.8 and EE 1.13. The new versions bring more developed price calculation options, while EE also gets a new indexing.

  • Elasticsearch: a revolutionary search solution replacing Solr. It’s scalable with the increase of search traffic. It flawlessly manages large size catalogues as well, and it handles 33 languages by default
  • PayPal developments, Braintree hosted fields, Improved management interface (see CE version)
  • 2017: Magento Commerce Cloud enhancements – advanced Shipping, Business Intelligence, Content Management and Social Media Capabilities were developed to be available to all 260,000 merchants around the globe starting the summer of 2017.

“Will Continue to Support Magento 1 until June 2020”, said Magento

Magento Commerce 2 is already a big hit. But what about those who have their business still on Magento 1. Well, Joe Ayyoub, Director of Support Operations at Magento revealed the support plan around Magento 1 on September 6, 2018.

He said “We understand that many of our Magento 1 merchants need additional time to make the transition to newer versions of Magento. To that end, our software support policies ensure that those customers have the time and confidence to upgrade when it is right for their business”.

Enterprise Edition a.k.a Magento Commerce 1

Joe Ayyoub clarified that –“Magento software support and/or security maintenance will apply only to Magento software and does not apply to third-party extensions or customizations. Which means the maintenance of extensions, customization or other modifications to the Magento codebase, including compliance with security and privacy standards (PCI, SOC, ISO, etc.), will be the responsibility of the business using these versions of Magento”.
